The Reading With Purpose series is designed to complement a language program through the use of interesting themes and activities. The series aims to encourage students to think beyond application, knowledge and understanding through creating, analysing, synthesising and evaluating information.
Reading With Purpose: Famous Faces From History contains a series of ten biographical themes. Each theme contains a non-fiction reader and three or four accompanying worksheets to consolidate students’ understanding of the text as well as providing opportunities for developing critical thinking skills. Many of the texts allow students to gain an insight into a mathematical or scientific concept through an understanding of how this concept was first developed. Themes explore the achievements of Leonardo Fibonacci, Ernest Shackleton, Matthew Flinders, Catherine II of Russia, Anne Bronte, Maurits Escher and many more.
